The James Madison Dukes ended the Golden Flashes’ 23-game winning streak with a 113-108 double-overtime victory over the Kent State Golden Flashes on Thursday night at home in Ohio.

The Dukes trailed 89-84 with 3.8 seconds left in regulation, but Noah Freidel caught an 80-foot pass and hit a 3-pointer with 1.2 seconds left in the game. Kent State was then whistled for an offensive foul on an inbounds play and Frydell scored on an open layup under the basket to send the game into the first overtime.

Duke led by as many as five points in the first overtime, but gave up a layup late. They missed an inbounds pass and Kent State’s Jalen Sullinger hit a 3-pointer from the corner with 9.9 seconds left in overtime.

To start the second overtime, Terrence Edwards hit a three-pointer with 1:35 left in the game. The Dukes led all the way. They led 35-24 at the free throw line and made 17 of 35 three-pointers to make up the difference.

Edwards finished with 25 points, 10 rebounds and six assists for the Dukes. Fredell scored five points in the final 3.8 seconds of the game. James Madison is the only Division I team in the last 30 years to start the season with back-to-back road overtime victories.
