It’s been almost two years since Solskjaer was sacked by Manchester United, and while the club legend still hangs in the stands at Old Trafford, the ‘super sub’ seems to have disappeared from the soccer world.
In his first in-depth interview with the media since his sacking in 2021, Solskjaer opened up about his time in charge of Manchester United. Speaking on the inside story of the much-hyped Crowe return, Solskjaer admitted: Getting Crowe back turned out to be very bad.

It was a great dream to sign Cairo, but it turned out to be the wrong choice.

When asked about the fans and some of the media thinking that Crowe’s return ruined Solskjaer’s season plans, accusing him of being a player that Woodward pushed to buy because of his love of vanity, Solskjaer replied that Crowe’s return was not a good idea. Solskjaer answered the truth about Crowe’s return to United and how to work with him.

Solskjaer said, “[Crowe’s return to United] was a decision that was hard to refuse and I think we had to accept it, but in the end it turned out to be the wrong decision. The fans felt good when he signed, when Old Trafford swung wildly for him in that game against Newcastle (Crowe scored twice to help his team win 4-1), when he was still one of the best goalscorers in the world and he looked strong.”

However, this time in a public interview he confessed that Crowe’s return to United was the wrong choice and believes that the relationship between the two, in the future, will become more delicate.
